Everyday files

Put any folder of documents, spreadsheets and decks in Wiele, see what changed, share one file, and get an old version back.

Goal: a folder you already work in, such as client documents, research or a book manuscript, saved with every version. You keep using the same apps. Wiele adds history, restore and sharing, and lets an agent do the bookkeeping.

Setup

Create a workspace and connect the folder where it is. track doesn't move or change your files.

Keep scratch files out before the first push. Create ~/Documents/Work/.wieleignore:

*.tmp
exports

Then check and push:

wiele status --directory ~/Documents/Work
wiele push --directory ~/Documents/Work -m "First version"

Any file type works, up to 10 GB per file. The first push uploads everything; later pushes upload only what changed.

Daily use

Work in your apps as usual. When you reach a point worth keeping, push:

cd ~/Documents/Work
wiele status
wiele push -m "Budget after the Tuesday call"

Each push saves every changed file as one revision. On a second computer, wiele fetch work:/ ~/Documents/Work gets the folder and wiele sync enable keeps it current. See Background sync.

Share one file or folder

Give a colleague read access to one folder, or edit access to one file:

wiele access invite anna@example.com --path work:/research --role read
wiele access invite ben@example.com --path work:/clients/client-a/budget.xlsx --role write

They see only what you shared. See Sharing and access.

Working with the agent

Start Claude Code, Codex or Cursor in ~/Documents/Work.

get saves the old version next to the current one, so you can compare them first. restore puts it back in the folder and moves the file it replaces to recovery, so nothing is lost.

Keep storage in check

Every version counts toward storage. If you save large files often, keep fewer old versions of them. An owner or admin sets the rule:

wiele workspace retention set /clients --workspace work --keep-versions 20
